California Proposition 65
Proposition 65 is the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986. This is a very complicated law and the latest revision requires that all products, that contain one of 900 chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm, have a warning label.
Baratza has decided to "play it safe" and label ALL retail boxes for grinders destined for sale in North America with the approved "safe harbor" warnings, for all grinders manufactured after August 30, 2018. We are also in compliance by posting this warning on our grinder sales and checkout pages on our website. The warning is:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Chromium (hexavalent compounds), which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects or other reproduction harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
